Jeanne Knieriemen was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised on Long Island. In 1971, she completed a two year liberal arts program at Nassau Community College. Jeanne transferred to St. Johns University and completed a four-year program, earning a degree in Elementary Education in 1973. One year later, Jeanne graduated with a masters in Special Education from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
From 1974 to 1990, Jeanne worked in the private sector, providing special education services to children with disabilities. From 1991 to 2001, Jeanne worked in a therapeutic day school in the Richmond area, which is where she saw how much of a difference specialized education could make in the lives of mentally and emotionally disabled children. In 2001, Jeanne created The LEAD Center, Ltd. (TLC) in Hopewell. Since the opening of the school, Jeanne has taken on numerous responsibilities, including Executive Director and, currently, President. Jeanne has seen TLC grow and prosper and nothing makes her happier than seeing a TLC student reenter the public school system and succeed in the classroom and community. Currently, Jeanne is working towards another degree from the International Graduate Center. Jeanne’s passions are helping disabled children meet there full potential and meeting with special educators to increase awareness of new techniques and programs for teaching children with disabilities. When not working for or at The LEAD Center, Ltd., Jeanne likes to take relaxing trips to the beach. |
